The future of Boscastle’s public toilets is under serious threat of closure. Cornwall Council has informed Boscastle CIC that the annual funding levy, specifically introduced to support the maintenance of these vital facilities, will be withdrawn from April 2025.
This levy was never part of the Council’s general budget – it was added to car park charges and passed to the CIC to ensure the toilets remain open for residents and visitors. This principle has been lost in the Council’s rearrangement of charging policy and the excuse is that the this levy funding is now being redirected into broader Council savings even though it is not theirs to use.
Boscastle CIC believe that these facilities are a lifeline for the community and essential for supporting tourism in the village – their closure would be a huge loss. Boscastle CIC are actively engaging with Cornwall Council and other stakeholders to resolve this.
