Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service are reminding us to take simple steps to reduce the risk of chimney fires this September.
Before the heating season begins:
- Make sure your chimney is swept by a qualified chimney sweep and that any wood burner, open fire or stove is properly maintained
- Only burn suitable fuels and avoid using wet wood or household rubbish
- Check that your smoke alarms are working and that you have a working carbon monoxide alarm
A well-maintained chimney can help keep your home and family safe.
