- Cornwall has around 300 miles of coastline. Perranporth Beach on the north coast has 3 miles of sand.
- Cornwall has its own language – Kernewek (Cornish). It is not widely spoken but is currently being revived.
- Cornwall has its own flag – St Piran’s Flag. It is black with a white cross. Legend says St Piran discovered tin when white metal flowed between dark rocks.
- The traditional Cornish pasty was created as a packed lunch for tin miners. The crimped crust allowed miners to hold the pasty with dirty hands and discard the crust after eating the filling.
- Fishermen in Cornwall can catch over forty different types of fish – far more varieties than elsewhere in Britain.
- China clay was first discovered in Cornwall in the 1700s and is now one of Cornwall’s largest exports.
