Correspondence
- Cornwall Council Leader’s forthcoming visit to Boscastle will be used to raise concerns about public toilets and the perception that North Cornwall is overlooked compared with areas closer to Truro.
- The Council declined a funding request from the Coach House Food Hub this year.
- The Council agreed to support the Dowr Glan (Clean Water) Campaign, a Cornwall-wide campaign promoting cleaner rivers and seas.
Reports
- Cornwall Councillor Mark Burnett: Update provided on work to improve college transport across North Cornwall. Public transport consultation taking place in Bude. Dentistry summit planned for July. Community grant opportunities available through National Grid and Bupa.
- Chairman: Raised concerns following recent changes affecting Coastguard volunteers, with the Council agreeing to write to the local MP and Cornwall Council in support of volunteers who lose earnings while responding to emergencies.
- Parish Clerk: No further updates.
Meeting Items
- Biodiversity / Rewilding: Results of the Parish Council survey showed 53% rated biodiversity as a high priority and 67% supported continuing the Paradise Triangle project, either unchanged or with minor improvements. The Council agreed to continue the project, invite Cormac’s biodiversity officer to a future meeting, and improve interpretation of the site.
- Car Park – Toilets: No further update.
- Highways: Councillors reviewed proposals discussed with Cornwall Highways, including parking restrictions at Potters Lane, Doctors Corner, and Old Road.
- Community Emergency Plan: Work continues on the supporting appendices to the draft plan. Resident information leaflet under development. Community Emergency & Resilience Open Day being considered for October.
- Website & Communications: Council investigating additional telephone features, including a welcome message and emergency call routing.
- Neighbourhood Priority Statement: Working group established to prepare the Council’s statement, which will help inform the future Cornwall Local Plan.
- Play Area: Monthly inspection identified only minor issues. New multi-play equipment has been inspected, with a small number of remedial works requested from the supplier. New waste bin has been installed.
- Castle Site: Monthly inspection satisfactory.
- College Transport: Survey work completed confirms significant gaps in transport provision for students travelling to colleges across North Cornwall.
- Works Around the Village: Bench at the Paradise Triangle copse requires cleaning. Council agreed to repeat last year’s manual weed clearance programme across residential streets.
- Community Centre: Building works are now almost complete.
- Riverside Walk: National Trust has shared management plans, contracts and risk assessments. Working group continues discussions with Cornwall Council and is considering options for additional seating.
- Bus Shelter: Cleaning remains incomplete.
