  • PA26/02846 – Listed building consent for remodelling and maintenance work at Ingledene, Dunn Street, Boscastle.
  • PA26/05635 – Listed building consent for widening the stairwell and associated internal alterations at Worthyvale Manor, Slaughter Bridge, Camelford.

Correspondence

The Council agreed to add a link on its website to the Kernow Directory to help residents access local services. Councillors also approved a £500 grant to Cornwall Air Ambulance. The Clerk will investigate adding a non-commercial link to help residents locate nearby defibrillators.

Reports

  • Cornwall Councillor Mark Burnett: Reported that Cornwall Council’s Chief Executive has begun a period of long-term leave and interim arrangements are being put in place. He also provided an update on local government devolution, noting Cornwall is expected to be among the first areas to receive enhanced powers under the Government’s programme. More than 32,000 potholes have been repaired so far this year, and discussions continue with Highways regarding the Parish Council’s Community Highways Improvement Programme priorities.
  • Parish Clerk: Advised that the national pay award for local government staff has been agreed and reflected in August’s salary. The Clerk has also met with two contractors to seek further advice on the damaged tree at the Castle Site and is awaiting their reports.

Meeting Item

  • Biodiversity / Rewilding: Work continues with plans to establish additional wildflower areas at Paradise Triangle. The grass-cutting contractor has been consulted, and the location of several tree stumps and stones affecting maintenance will be investigated.
  • Car Park – Toilets: The hedge between the public toilets and the Cornish Stores has been cut back.
  • Highways: Concerns were raised that road markings at the High Street and Mount Pleasant/Paradise Road crossroads remain a low priority despite being reported. The Council also agreed to write to the owners of Round Tree Cottage regarding inconsiderate contractor parking and report an abandoned vehicle at Waterpit Down.
  • Community Emergency Plan: Preparations continue for the Community Emergency & Resilience Open Day on Thursday 15th October. Household information leaflets have been passed to Royal Mail for parish-wide delivery, display boards have been produced, the website updated, and the social media campaign has begun. The Council also noted preparations for presenting Boscastle’s journey from the 2004 flood to today’s resilience planning at the Whole Community Resilience Conference.
  • Website & Communications: The Council agreed its Information Technology Policy should include guidance on the use of Artificial Intelligence, ensuring any AI-generated content is reviewed and approved by a councillor before publication. The Clerk also reported that a copyright claim relating to an image on the website had been successfully resolved after evidence of the licence was provided.
  • Neighbourhood Priority Statement: The working group will meet shortly to begin considering how best to engage residents in developing the Parish’s Neighbourhood Priority Statement.
  • Play Area: Monthly inspection found no issues. The supplier has completed the outstanding remedial works to the new multi-play tower, and the Council accepted a quote to install new bases for the repaired rockers.
  • Castle Site: The repaired picnic bench has been reinstated. The Council continues to await specialist reports on the damaged tree.
  • College Transport: Councillors welcomed reports that some students are now being provided with private taxi transport to Truro College where suitable bus services are unavailable.
  • Riverside Walk: The working group’s latest meeting was postponed. Cllr Hitchman-Smith has joined the group.
  • Community Champion Award: Councillors were reminded to encourage nominations.
  • Remembrance Sunday: The Council agreed to increase its annual donation for the Royal British Legion wreath to £30.
