Boscastle Coastguard were paged, alongside Polzeath Coastguard on the 05-12-2023 @ 23:50 to assist police with a concern for a vulnerable female, somewhere near Backways Cove.
With the Polzeath and Boscastle team on scene, and weather deteriorating with temps down to freezing and coastal gales, a plan was quickly put together by the police and (CG) officer in charge and a search team was set up to do a quick hasty search from Trebarwith, and then towards Backways Cove.
Search team 1 was heading along the coastal footpath whilst searching across the fields with torches, when one of the CG officers spotted the female lying in the field. A quick medical assessment made it clear that the female was suffering from stage 2 + hypothermia.
Another plan was quickly made to extract the casualty via stretcher across the fields to the awaiting CG truck where we could warm her up and keep obs whilst we waited for the ambulance.
With the OBS starting to come back to normal and hypothermia stages dropping, it was left with the police and we were then stood down to get back to the station to sort the kit and home for 3am.
A great effort with everyone involved and a quick successful outcome under the circumstances, with the female located within 20 mins of us being there.
