We recently held our annual dinner at the Beach House restaurant in Widemouth bay who provided excellent food and hospitality. The evening was well attended, with 34 watchkeepers and guests enjoying the occasion. We were very grateful to our Guest of Honour, HM Coast Guard’s Senior Operations Officer, responsible for this stretch of our beautiful coastline, who made an excellent speech detailing the invaluable role of volunteers within the UK’s marine & coastal search and rescue capability.
2023 was a record year for watchkeeping, the lookout being open and on watch for 3,554 hours. 3,930 commercial vessels and 1,517 leisure vessels were logged by our watchkeepers during the year.
To conclude a wonderful evening, several awards were presented. Five new watchkeepers received Qualified Watchkeeper certificates and reflecting the outstanding service & commitment of our volunteers, two Five Year Service awards, one Ten Year Service Award and Two Fifteen Year Service awards were also presented.
Boscastle NCI would like to extend its congratulations to the RNLI who are celebrating 200 years of saving lives at sea.
The UK’s marine and coastal search and rescue capability is formed from a network of organisations. NCI Boscastle reports to the Coastguard’s Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Falmouth, working together with the coastguard rescue teams, helicopters, RNLI and 999 emergency services to ensure safety around the UK coast.
