Why did i join the class?
At 57, I live by the saying “use it or lose it.” Like most people, I go back and forth with a lot of health habits, but overall, I try to stay consistent—keeping my weight down, watching my portions, cutting back on processed foods, and squeezing in exercise when I can.
So why did I start yoga? I deal with my fair share of aches and pains, including a stubborn shoulder injury and general joint stiffness. My wife, who had been suffering from morning back pain, started doing yoga, and her pain disappeared. She swears by it, and seeing her results got me interested.
When I found out that Claire, a local instructor, was starting a men’s class, I decided it was time to give it a shot. Claire’s a fantastic instructor—she encourages everyone to move at their own pace, and her class has a laid-back vibe. We even share a laugh now and then when someone wobbles or loses balance! I’ve only been going for a couple of months, but I already feel the difference. Each week, I’m noticing fewer aches, and my flexibility is improving.
I know yoga has a reputation for being a bit “hippie,” but it’s not like that. There’s a spiritual side to it, yes, but I find that’s actually a good thing. I look forward to that hour of zoning out, a time to mentally step back from the day-to-day stress. It brings a real sense of calm.
If you fancy giving it a go, its every Tuesday evening at 7:30 at the Community Centre in Boscastle.
