Public Participation
Three members of the public attended. Two reported vandalism and anti-social behaviour at their property, including a cut Christmas tree light cable and unwanted visits. These incidents have been reported to the police.
Cornwall Councillor Report
CCllr Jordan clarified that Cornwall Council is not selling car parks but is exploring management options with external bodies while retaining ownership. The Shared Prosperity Fund (SPF), expected to provide £47 million, has not yet been released by the government. He also noted remaining funds in his community chest for small projects.
Neighbourhood Policing
Inspector Greg Hodgkiss and PC Michael Lenehan from Devon and Cornwall Police presented crime statistics for the PL35 area since January 2021, including 79 reported crimes such as 19 assaults and 9 thefts. Under-reporting of anti-social behaviour and vandalism was highlighted, and residents were encouraged to use proper reporting channels. Councillors expressed thanks for their attendance and agreed to draft a communication brief summarising the discussions.
Planning Considered
- No applications were received for discussion during the meeting.
- Two late applications (PA24/09813 and PA25/00135) were deferred to a future meeting.
Reports
- Clerk’s Report: Annual staffing meeting set for 24th April. A quote will be requested from the current contractor for grass cutting services.
- Castle Site: Monthly inspection noted fallen trees from Storm Darragh, which have since been removed. Additional fallen trees on National Trust land and the castle site were reported. Access to the meadow area from Parish Council land is being explored.
- Play Area: Inspection found no significant issues. Plans to install post caps on parallel bars and purchase a picnic table and bench for £1,591 were approved.
- Paradise Triangle: Contractor scheduled to finish trimming shrubs and trees on 21st January.
Correspondence
- Awaiting a response to a letter sent to the football club regarding dog fouling and dogs on the playing field. Dog fouling issues at the top of the village were also reported.
Council Documentation Review
- Financial regulations were updated to include delegated authority for the Play Area and Castle Site workgroup.
Items Since Last Meeting
- Community Award: Two nominations received. A social media release will encourage further nominations by 30th January, with the winner announced at the Annual Parish Meeting on 27th March.
- Clerk Appraisement: Feedback from councillors and the Clerk is being compiled for review.
