Devon and Cornwall Police have been out in force this week cracking down on drivers across Cornwall to increase awareness over road safety and tackle “the so-called fatal five”. In 2024, 23 people lost their lives as a result of collisions on roads in Cornwall.
Five drivers involved in those fatal collisions in Cornwall were driving under the influence of drink or drugs.
Drink and drug driving is one of the ‘fatal five’ most common causes of serious injuries and death on UK roads.
The others are not wearing a seatbelt, driver distraction (including using a mobile phone), speeding and careless and inconsiderate driving.
