Correspondence
- A grant of £300 was awarded to the Coach House Food Hub, Tintagel.
- The Monumental Improvement Project open day has been confirmed for May half term, although the council had hoped for a term-time date to involve local schoolchildren.
Reports
- Cornwall Councillor Report: During the pre-election period, CCllr Jordan gave thanks to all councillors, past and present, for their work.
- Clerk’s Report: The next meeting (8th May) will be the Annual Meeting where the Chair and Vice Chair for the year are selected.
Meeting Items
Neighbourhood Policing: Increased presence from the local beat manager has been noted. A recent retail theft totalling £600 has been reported.
Car Park – Toilets: Deferred to May meeting when newly elected Cornwall Councillors will be in post and can be lobbied regarding previous decisions.
Highways: Slaughterbridge – Police caught three drivers speeding. Potters Lane – Six “no waiting” cones have been deployed to discourage parking near the junction.
Civil Emergency and Contingency: The next working group meeting is scheduled for 17th April at 6.30pm. The council noted the MP raised the issue of telecare failures following copper line removal in Parliament.
Village and Valley Trail: Cllr Yates proposed handing the interactive walking trail (phase two) over to the CIC to develop.
Play Area: The picnic table and bench have been installed. Children’s rockers damaged by misuse and will be repaired. Junior multi-play unit showing signs of wear.
Castle Site: Monumental Project: Video footage shared; interpretation board content still awaited. Meadow Area: Obstructive branches have again been removed by councillors.
Communication: Annual Parish Meeting: Well-attended and positive, with thanks noted for the presence of the local MP and Cornwall Councillor. Fewer business attendees than hoped.
Works Around the Village: Riverside Walk: Cllr Costello met with the National Trust ranger. NT lacks capacity to get involved but is considering small improvements (e.g. seating) near the car park. Environment Agency approval is required for works.
Recognition of Councillors’ Service (2021–2025): Councillors reflected on achievements over the past four years, including play area regeneration, Castle site improvements, traffic management and pedestrian safety, biodiversity initiatives, the Community Champion award, collaborative working group success. Cllr Simmonds confirmed this was his final meeting and thanked all involved.
Playing Field – Dog Fouling: The environment officer will no longer inspect before football games but will continue general checks. A yellow dog fouling sign near Paradise Triangle has been removed following complaints from residents.
Grass Cutting: First cut of the season is imminent. The contractor’s performance continues to be valued.
Carole Vincent sculpture will soon be displayed outside the school.
