The Boscastle Buoys proudly represented Cornwall this August at the Festival Interceltique de Lorient, an event which attracts over one million visitors across its ten days.
They performed in Lorient Stadium for five consecutive nights, entertaining enthusiastic crowds, and also took part in the grand parade of Celtic nations, watched by an estimated nine million viewers on French television.
On their one free day, some visited the German submarine pens for a guided tour and paid their respects at the war graves cemetery. They also attended the Lorient President’s Garden Party, where they were invited to sing for the assembled guests. Hedley’s French is not that good, telling the head of the French navy “Je t’aime”. ( I love you )
It was a fantastic experience for all involved, and the Buoys are already looking forward to next year — when Cornwall will be the host nation at the same venue.
