As part of developing the Forrabury & Minster Community Emergency Plan, the Parish Council is beginning to identify residents who may be willing to help support the community during local emergencies.
Events such as flooding, prolonged power cuts, telecoms failures, or severe weather can sometimes leave our parish temporarily isolated. The aim of the Community Emergency Plan is to help neighbours support each other until emergency services or wider assistance can reach us.
We are therefore inviting residents who might be willing to help as Community Volunteers to let us know.
Volunteering does not mean committing to a fixed role or being on call. Instead, it helps the Parish Council understand who in the community may be willing to assist if the plan were activated.
Examples of volunteer support could include:
- Checking on neighbours or vulnerable residents
- Helping share information locally
- Assisting at the Community Hub if it is opened
- Supporting simple coordination tasks during an incident
All volunteering would always be voluntary, and nobody would ever be expected to do anything they are uncomfortable with or beyond their ability. Safety will always come first.
