Could you be one of Cornwall’s next 5,000?

Health leaders across Cornwall are encouraging more people to have their blood pressure checked after a successful campaign exceeded its original target ahead of schedule.

The ‘Know Your Numbers and Take Action’ campaign has already helped more than 15,000 people check their blood pressure in just six months, surpassing its original goal of 10,000 checks in a year. The campaign is now aiming to reach 20,000 people within 12 months, with 5,000 more residents encouraged to know their numbers.

High blood pressure often has no obvious symptoms, but if left untreated it can increase the risk of heart attacks, strokes, kidney disease and other serious health conditions.

The good news is that checking your blood pressure is quick, simple and free. Checks are available through many community pharmacies, GP surgeries, libraries and community events across Cornwall. If your blood pressure is found to be high, advice and treatment are available to help reduce the risks.

Health professionals are encouraging everyone—particularly adults over 40 or anyone who hasn’t had their blood pressure checked recently—to take a few minutes to know their numbers.

A simple check today could help prevent more serious health problems tomorrow.
