Installing an EV charger? You may be able to apply for a cable channel

Cornwall Council is reminding residents that if you own an electric vehicle but don’t have off-street parking, you may be able to apply to install an EV charging channel outside your property.

A charging channel is a narrow, purpose-built groove installed in the pavement, allowing a charging cable to run safely from your home to your vehicle without creating a trip hazard for pedestrians.

The scheme is designed to help people who park on the street charge their electric vehicles more safely while keeping pavements clear and accessible for everyone.

Applications are assessed by Cornwall Council to ensure locations are suitable, with factors such as pavement width, accessibility and road safety all taken into consideration. Charges apply for both the application and installation.

As more people make the switch to electric vehicles, the scheme offers an option for residents who may otherwise find home charging difficult.

Further information, including eligibility, costs and how to apply, is available on the Cornwall Council website.
